Welcome to the homepage of the Hotel & Gasthof zur Windmühle.


Our house, one of the most traditional in Ansbach, is located directly at the entrance to the town from Nuremberg (B 14). Its history goes back to 1735 and has been shaped by the Sturm family since 1914. In 2014 we received the 3 Star Superior classification.

Our restaurant has typical Franconian furnishings and offers a cozy atmosphere. As trained professionals, we personally ensure your physical well-being and family service. The kitchen offers predominantly regional dishes in a wide selection, with regional seasonal specialties for every taste. Of course, our kitchen team is also open to your special requests.

After extensive expansion measures, we now offer you 69 comfortable rooms in our family-run hotel to suit every requirement. For relaxation, you can use our new wellness area with three different saunas, lounge and grotto. Whether for relaxation or a special occasion – enjoy your stay in our unique hotel.


Historical and modern: our 3-star hotel with a long family tradition

In our hotel you are a guest in a family-run hotel. The “windmill” has been owned by the Sturm family for exactly 100 years. In 1914, Johann Michael Sturm from Steinbach purchased the inn high above Ansbach. Since then, every generation of the Sturm family has devoted a lot of passion and commitment to their hotel.

Today, three generations of the family run the hotel: After Johann Michael Sturm, his son Hans took over the house. He handed over to Johann Sturm, whose wife Elfriede Sturm still works as senior manager in service today. Her son Helmut Sturm has been working in his parents' business since 1979, head chef since 1983 and managing director since 1996, actively supported by Mrs. Ruth. With his two sons Michael and Christian, the next generation is already ready to lead the Hotel Windmühle successfully into the future.


Master chef Michael Sturm has a true passion for the hotel and catering industry. Best of his year in the journeyman's examination, training at the Heidelberg hotel management school, further training in the 5-star Hotel Bareiss in the Black Forest, winner of the Johann Lafer Prize 2013, state-certified restaurateur - with these rich experiences he now supports his father Helmut Sturm in the management of the Hotel-Inn.

Christian Sturm is now also available to the “Windmühle” after completing his training as a hotel specialist.
